How it works
It listens first. The whole video is transcribed with word-level timing — every word pinned to the millisecond it was said.
It reads for meaning. Words are regrouped into real sentences, so a cut can only ever land where a thought begins or ends.
It judges every candidate. Each moment is scored against the same rubric across the whole video — not the best bit of an arbitrary chunk.

The Virality Score
Creating a video is easy. Creating one worth watching is harder. Clipkiln doesn't cut your footage into arbitrary chunks and hope — it evaluates every candidate against the same six-factor scoring system.
Every candidate is scored on six factors drawn from published research on why short-form video spreads. How much each one counts is our editorial call — and those weights are fixed, they sum to 100, and they are printed here in full, not hidden behind a black box. The model reads the clip's transcript and rates it against each factor at zero temperature, so between fixed weights and a fixed rating pass, the same clip always scores the same.
More importantly, that score becomes part of your workflow. A video below your threshold stays out of the publishing queue. A strong one moves forward. Your channel gets the content most likely to deserve a viewer's attention, without you reviewing every candidate by hand.

The narration and the captions come from the same place: the voice tells us exactly when it says each word, so the subtitles cannot drift out of sync.
A script that runs longer than this is split. Each part says “Part 2” out loud and ends by pointing at the next one — except the last part, which does not, because there is nothing to point at.
Speech speed changes how fast the voice reads — captions stay locked to it. 1.1× is the default because short-form narration lands better slightly fast. Background speed only changes how fast the footage plays behind it.

Clipkiln can run itself, four ways. Clip extraction works through a list of videos you queue up — pulling the best moments out of each one, rendering them as shorts and posting them. Compilations works through the same list, but joins the best moments into one longer video with a title band instead of posting them separately. Story videos writes original scripts with your own AI account and turns those into narrated videos. Channel uploads watches YouTube or Twitch channels and clips each new video as soon as it comes out. Pick a type below; everything under it changes to match.

The videos waiting to be cut into shorts. Paste a link or upload a file and Clipkiln fetches it now — so a bad link fails while you are watching, not at 9am. Each run takes the oldest videos off the list and works through them; once a video is done it leaves the list.
Off, a run stops once it has posted its daily quota of clips — which on a video that yields a few good ones means roughly one video per run. On, the run moves to the next video with that quota renewed and carries on until nothing is left, exactly as if you kept pressing Run once now. Each video is cut and posted the same way either way; this only changes when the run stops. A long list means a long run, and a lot more posted in one go.
Clipkiln works down the list until it has posted its daily quota of clips, then stops. How many videos that takes depends on how many good clips each one yields, so there is nothing to set here but the time — the cap under "What gets posted" is what limits a day's output.
Every clip found gets posted, best-scoring first — unless you set a bar. One feature-length podcast can yield twenty clips, so the daily cap is what stops a single run flooding your channel and burning through YouTube's upload quota (about six a day on a default project).
Virality is the same 0–100 score you see on clip cards in the Uploads tab. A clip that couldn't be scored isn't posted — it's kept in the Uploads tab for you to judge by hand.
Only clips that got a score and came in under it — anything that couldn't be scored is kept. They're dropped before rendering, so they cost you nothing. Turn this off to keep them in the Uploads tab and go through them by hand.
How each video gets cut up. These are the same controls the Extract tab uses — every run applies them to every video in the list.
Clips outside this range are never cut — the same limit the Extract tab applies. Turn it off to let the extractor choose freely.
Subtitles are translated into that language before they are burned in. English is the transcript's own language and needs no translation.
Off: long videos are split into parts (you choose the length below). On: one continuous cut — YouTube is skipped for any video over its 3-minute Shorts limit, and TikTok for anything over 60 seconds. Google Drive has no limit.
Tick the accounts a run should post to. Connecting an account does not switch it on by itself, so a new account stays quiet until you say otherwise. One video is split into parts for YouTube and posted as one for TikTok.
YouTube requires you to declare this. It applies to every video a run posts to YouTube. What counts as made for kids?

This page is for Claude and ChatGPT — the two AI assistants Clipkiln plugs into. It is not a general-purpose API page, and it will not connect Clipkiln to Zapier, Make, n8n or anything else.
Both get the same thing — the same tools and the same cards, with playable clips and a progress bar that moves on its own. Only the setup differs, and Claude’s is the shorter one.

Anything your plan does not include, Claude will tell you plainly rather than fail.
Downloading and transcribing a video takes about 10 to 20 minutes. It will give you a job number and you come back to it — if it claims to be done in seconds, something is wrong.
It reads the words that were spoken, so it can tell you a clip is about pricing and where it starts and ends. It cannot tell you what anyone looked like or what was on screen.
Download links stop working after about 12 hours. That is on purpose, so an old link cannot be passed around. Your clips are not gone — ask for the links again, or open the job here on the website.

Streamers, podcasters and brands now pay people to turn their long videos into short ones, and they pay by the view. This guide explains how it really works: where the paying campaigns are, how the money is worked out, and the rules that get clip accounts banned. Short-form feeds (TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels) are where new viewers find streamers now. One streamer can’t post fifty clips a day, but a few hundred clippers can. So instead of hiring an editing team, streamers and brands put up a budget and pay anyone whose clip gets watched.
The scale is real. Business Insider reported that Kick streamer N3on paid more than $1.4 million to 303 clippers in one five-week period, usually $40 per 100,000 views (Tubefilter ↗). Brands use the same model for product launches, and marketplaces like Whop now host many of these campaigns.
That also means the money is spread thin. Lots of clippers chase the same budgets, so the people who earn are the ones who are early, consistent and actually good at picking moments.

Before you clip anything, read four numbers: rate, minimum views, cap per clip and budget left.
Each campaign can also set a minimum payout. Whop’s own example is a $3 rate with a $6 minimum, which means only videos with at least 2,000 views even reach review (Whop docs ↗). Whop charges the brand a 10% fee on top of the budget.
The streamer usually owns the copyright in their stream. Music, game footage or other people’s video in the stream may belong to someone else again. Reposting a clip copies their work, so you need a reason you’re allowed to.
Pay = views ÷ 1,000 × rate. Then the cap, the minimum and the budget cut it down.

Every program defines this differently, so read the campaign’s terms. Some common patterns:
A $5,000 budget at $1 per 1,000 covers 5 million views in total, across every clipper. Once other people’s approved views use it up, your later approvals pay nothing. That’s why the first few days of a campaign are worth the most.
Platforms also pay creators directly, but in 2026 they mostly exclude raw clips of other people:
Bottom line: for most clippers the campaign is the paycheck. Creator funds only become a bonus once you add real commentary or editing.
One account per streamer or niche, clearly labelled as a fan page.

Many clipping “gurus” say to run dozens of accounts. Platforms disagree. YouTube’s spam policy bans re-posting other people’s videos “without adding anything of your own”, and mass-producing repetitive content across networks of channels (YouTube ↗). A few distinct accounts, each with its own niche and its own edits, is fine. A farm of identical reposts is how clippers lose everything at once.
A 4-hour stream has a few gold minutes. Find them fast.
Raw reposts get buried and demonetised. Add something.
The swipe happens in the first second or two. YouTube Studio even shows a “viewed vs swiped away” figure for every Short, so you can measure your hooks.
Background music in a stream is one of the most common reasons clips get blocked. Twitch itself told streamers to delete old clips containing unlicensed music after a wave of takedowns (Twitch ↗).
Post every day, and submit each link to the campaign straight away.
Clippers who earn tend to post daily or several times a day. Each clip is a lottery ticket, and the algorithm learns what your account is about from volume. Balance that against the spam rules in step 3: more distinct clips, not the same clip again.
It takes two minutes a clip, and it’s the only thing that helps when a payout goes missing.
